Software jobs in India: start with a better company shortlist
Find product teams, international employers and remote roles you can actually apply for from India.
A job can match your stack and still be wrong for you: the employer cannot hire in India, the “remote” team expects office visits in Bengaluru, or the start date conflicts with your notice period. A useful shortlist makes those questions easier to check before you spend time applying.
JobHunter’s India collection brings together 300 technology employers already present in our Global catalogue. It includes Indian product teams, international companies with roles in India and IT services employers. In the latest expansion, we checked an official technical vacancy in India for each of the 200 additions and confirmed each employer’s presence in Global search.
This is a starting point for research, not a ranking of the “best companies to work for”. Team quality, pay, work hours and eligibility still need to be assessed for the particular role. The shortlist was reviewed on 1 October 2026; openings change.

Start with the work you want to do. For a backend engineer, that might be ownership of a production service, distributed systems or payment infrastructure. For a QA engineer, it might be building automation rather than mainly running manual test cases. Company type helps narrow the search, but the job description and interview tell you what you will actually own.
- Product companies and SaaS teams: look for a named product, a clear engineering problem and a team responsible for shipping and operating it.
- International engineering teams in India: check where your manager and teammates work, how decisions are made and which time zones you will support.
- IT services and consulting: clarify the client or project, whether the assignment is confirmed, and what happens when it ends.
- Remote employers: verify that India is an eligible hiring location for the individual vacancy.
You do not need to move abroad to work on an international product. Equally, an international brand does not tell you whether a particular team offers the ownership, mentorship or schedule you want.
Tech employers to explore, with official career sources
These examples come from the researched collection. The role and location describe an observed posting, not a promise that every opening at the company has the same conditions. Use the official board to check what is open now.
| Employer | Observed technical work | Location to check |
|---|---|---|
| Sarvam | Backend engineering for a media platform | Bengaluru |
| SigNoz | Backend and frontend engineering | India; remote-labelled examples |
| Drivetrain | Backend, SRE and quality engineering | India; check each role’s format |
| Atomicwork | Backend search and frontend development | Bengaluru |
| PubMatic | C/C++ and machine learning engineering | Pune; hybrid examples |
| Zenoti | Software engineering with .NET | Hyderabad |
| Onehouse | Backend engineering and distributed systems | India-remote example |
| Netskope | Software engineering for security products | India; confirm city and office policy |
Use these as leads, then compare the actual responsibilities. A familiar company name is less useful than a clear match between your experience and the problems a team needs solved.
How to find remote software jobs you can do from India
Read the location before the remote label. “Remote — India”, “remote — United States” and “work from anywhere” can describe very different hiring arrangements. Start with an explicit India location and then check the work-mode details.
For example, Drivetrain’s official board lists India-based engineering roles with remote and hybrid labels. Atlassian’s Team Anywhere policy explains that hiring location depends on a legal entity, working rights, time-zone compatibility and team approval. A distributed company still has location rules.
Before an interview, establish three things: whether the company can engage someone living in India, whether you would be an employee or contractor, and what working-hour overlap is expected. If a role says remote but also mentions an office city, ask whether office attendance or travel is required.
In JobHunter, combine the India employer collection with country: India and remote. The country filter uses recorded location data. Some worldwide roles without an India tag may be absent, so review broader employer results separately if international remote work is part of your search.

A short conversation about practical constraints can prevent an unsuitable interview process. Keep the answers beside the job link so you can compare opportunities on the same basis.
- Compensation in INR and LPA
- Ask for the annual fixed amount, variable component, equity, joining bonus and other components separately. LPA means lakhs per annum. A headline CTC figure is not the same as monthly take-home pay. Ask the employer to explain the package rather than estimating missing components from the title.
- Notice period and joining date
- State your contractual notice period and a realistic earliest start date. Ask whether the hiring timeline fits it and whether any proposed buyout or early release has actually been agreed. Do not assume that “immediate joiner preferred” automatically rules you in or out.
- Office, hybrid or remote
- Confirm the office address, expected days on site and whether the policy applies to your team. “Bengaluru hybrid” is a different proposition if you currently live in Pune and do not want to relocate.
- Team and working hours
- Ask about on-call duties, customer coverage, evening meetings and collaboration across time zones. An English job description alone does not establish the team’s working language.
- Employment arrangement
- Confirm the employing entity or contracting arrangement and the location you are permitted to work from. Treat visa sponsorship and relocation support as unknown unless the employer explicitly confirms them.
A practical search workflow for candidates in India
- Choose your constraints first. Write down role, seniority, location, remote preference, compensation expectations and earliest joining date. Separate essentials from preferences.
- Open the India collection. Add the India country filter, then narrow by role or skill. You can search local and international employers in the same collection.
- Read the official posting. Check responsibilities, required experience, location and work format. Treat a recent observation date as evidence that a posting was seen, not proof it was newly published.
- Build a manageable shortlist. Record the job URL, why your experience fits, unanswered questions and application date. Prioritise roles where you can demonstrate relevant work.
- Tailor your application. Connect two or three relevant projects or outcomes to the role’s requirements. A focused application is more informative than an unchanged CV sent to every employer.
- Recheck before applying. Vacancies can close between scans. The employer’s application page is the final availability check.
The India collection is an employer filter inside Global. It does not turn every vacancy at those companies into an India-based role. Keep the country filter on when you want local hiring, and remove it deliberately when exploring jobs abroad.
Common questions
Is this a list of the best IT companies to work for in India?
No. It is a researched employer shortlist based on career sources and relevant hiring evidence. It does not score management, culture, compensation or work–life balance. Assess those at the team and offer level.
Are there jobs for freshers?
Some sources include internships and early-career roles. Drivetrain’s board, for example, lists engineering and QA internships. Much of the collection targets experienced specialists. Search for intern, graduate or junior roles and check the requirements rather than assuming every company recruits freshers.
Does remote mean I can work from any city in India?
Not necessarily. Check the permitted location, office visits, travel, working hours and employment arrangement in the posting or with the recruiter.
Do all 300 companies have open jobs in India today?
The collection is a dated employer selection; vacancy availability changes. The latest 200 additions each had a directly checked technical India vacancy when reviewed. Use the live search and official sources for current openings.
Is the shortlist restricted by nationality?
No. It is designed around work available from or within India. It does not infer anyone’s nationality from their name, and an employer’s hiring eligibility still applies.
