Role Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our finance team. This position will play a key role in processing payroll, supporting the month-end close process, and assisting the Financial Controller with daily accounting operations. The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, and enjoys working in a collaborative environment. Experience with payroll processing is required, while familiarity with government contracting or project accounting is desirable. Key Responsibilities Include: Payroll Administration Process bi-monthly payroll accurately and on schedule. Maintain employee payroll records, timekeeping, and payroll-related documentation. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations. Coordinate payroll changes, including new hires, employee status changes, and terminations. Reconcile payroll reports and assist with payroll tax reporting and year-end activities. Respond to employee payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies. Accounting & Financial Operations Assist the Financial Controller with month-end and year-end close activities. Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules. Assist with general ledger maintenance and financial reporting. Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as needed. Maintain fixed asset schedules, prepaid expenses, accruals, and balance sheet accounts reconciliations. Assist in preparing financial statements and management reports. Support internal and external audits by gathering documentation and responding to information requests. General Responsibilities Maintain accurate accounting records and documentation. Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and efficiencies. Collaborate with Finance, HR, and Project Management teams. Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred. 2–5 years of accounting experience. Payroll processing experience required. Experience with general ledger accounting and month-end closing. Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting. Government contracting or project accounting experience is a plus. Strong Microsoft Excel skills. Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting government contractors. Familiarity with FAR, DCAA, or project accounting concepts. Experience with payroll reconciliations and labor allocations.
