Job description
About the company & products TuxCare offers a comprehensive portfolio of security solutions for Linux and open-source software designed for enterprise organizations. With TuxCare, companies can automate vulnerability patching, minimize downtime, maintain security and compliance, and rely on deep expertise in Linux and open-source security. Our solutions cover widely used Linux distributions, end-of-life systems, open-source software ecosystems, and other critical infrastructure. Learn more at: https://tuxcare.com/ We are currently hiring Staff Engineers for two TuxCare products: KernelCare and SecureChain . KernelCare KernelCare provides automated live patching for Linux kernels without requiring reboots, helping organizations keep production systems secure while avoiding operational downtime. As a mature and business-critical product, KernelCare offers the opportunity to solve complex engineering challenges at scale, evolve established systems, and improve automation while maintaining a strong focus on reliability and stability. Learn more at: https://tuxcare.com/enterprise-live-patching-services/kernelcare-enterprise/ SecureChain SecureChain is one of TuxCare's newer security products focused on open-source software supply chain security. SecureChain helps organizations use open-source dependencies more safely by providing packages rebuilt from verified source code, scanned for malware and supply chain risks, and continuously patched as new vulnerabilities are discovered. Because SecureChain is still a relatively new product, engineers have significant opportunities to build systems from the ground up and influence its technical direction. Learn more at: https://tuxcare.com/securechain-for-oss/ About the role The role combines deep technical execution with technical product ownership and is approximately 70% hands-on software engineering and 30% technical product ownership . You will lead significant product components and workstreams end-to-end: clarifying requirements with stakeholders, defining milestones, designing solutions, contributing production code, delivering functionality to customers, and ensuring its continued reliability in production. This is an individual contributor role, not a people-management position. We are looking for someone who can operate autonomously, navigate ambiguity, and drive complex initiatives forward without relying on a manager to define every next step. As the product and priorities evolve, curiosity, adaptability, and a broad interest in the cybersecurity area will be important for success in this role. What you'll do: Own major product components and workstreams throughout their full lifecycle, from initial discovery and planning to production release and ongoing improvement. Work directly with engineering, product, sales, and other stakeholders to understand, gather, and clarify business and technical requirements. Translate broad product goals into technical plans, milestones, and actionable engineering tasks. Design scalable system architecture and make technical decisions for high-impact product areas. Build, review, and maintain production-grade components end-to-end, ensuring reliability, security, performance, maintainability, and extensibility. Take responsibility for delivered components in production and their continued operation and evolution. Independently track progress and proactively communicate results, blockers, risks, dependencies, and changing requirements. Research relevant technologies, tools, market approaches, and competitor solutions when needed. Contribute to engineering quality through design reviews, technical guidance, mentorship, and best practices. Use AI-assisted development tools as part of the regular engineering workflow for planning, implementation, debugging, testing, refactoring, automation, and code review. Requirements Proven experience owning major projects, products, systems, or workstreams end-to-end. Strong hands-on Python development experience. Strong system design and architectural thinking, combined with the ability to implement proposed solutions hands-on. Demonstrated experience building substantial systems or features and taking them through production release. Experience gathering and refining requirements and turning broad needs into technical plans, milestones, and deliverables. Strong technical product ownership and an understanding of how engineering decisions support broader product and business goals. Ability to work independently without close day-to-day supervision. Strong communication skills and confidence working directly with engineering teams and cross-functional stakeholders. Ability to clearly explain technical decisions, trade-offs, progress, risks, dependencies, and blockers. Regular use of AI-assisted development tools for planning, implementation, debugging, testing, refactoring, automation, or code review. AI should be part of the development workflow rather than used only for occasional experimentation. Ability to balance short-term delivery with long-term scalability, reliability, maintainability, and extensibility. Curiosity, adaptability, and an interest in cybersecurity and complex technical problems. Advanced written and spoken English. Benefits What's in it for you? Stay hands-on technically while owning complex, high-impact engineering work. Work on challenging Linux, automation, and cybersecurity problems across mature and newer products. Influence technical direction and make meaningful architectural decisions. Work independently with a high level of ownership and autonomy. Fully remote work with flexible working hours. 24 paid vacation days, 10 national holidays, and unlimited sick leave. Private medical insurance compensation. Co-working and gym/sports reimbursement. Education budget. Opportunity to receive a reward for innovative ideas that the company can patent.
